I am from Umlazi, Durban, KwaZulu Natal
Tell us a bit of your background
By qualification, I have a degree in Public Finance and Accounting as well as an MBA. I am currently doing a programme on Personal and Professional Leadership(true to my passion). Large parts of my career have been in the public service, Department of Public Service and Administration, National Treasury, Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation and the City of Johannesburg.
After GEP, I can safely say I have experienced all three spheres of government.
What do you see as the importance of GEP in the Gauteng economy?
We exist to enable small businesses to thrive and grow so that our economy comprises of flourishing and growing entrepreneurs who are doing it not only for their families or their livelihoods but for the province and the country as there will be more job opportunities. GEP is also set to play a crucial role in the township economy so that residents have work opportunities in areas that they reside, improving their quality of life without travelling halfway across town, spending 70 percent of their wages just on commuting.
What do you hope to achieve with GEP?
Given the current context in terms of the economy and the impact that COVID-19 has on businesses, I am looking forward to being part of the team that will turn the tide. Creating growth opportunities for micro and small businesses is something that I am looking forward to seeing unfold. As GEP, we forge key strategic partnerships to facilitate this growth.
What will success look like for you?
Being aligned to the true purpose of my existence and leading from my true North!
What drives you?
My family, their authenticity is such a breath of fresh air, and as such, within the work context, I thrive when people are authentic and when colleagues lead and function from their authentic selves.
